mmmmm, hog's fat

i arrived at work, a bit hungover, wondering what i should eat for breakfast. the warm stench of bus and people had rendered me a bit nauseous, so any old thing just wouldn't do. i didn't think the daily larabar would suffice. here's what was in my work email:

In the best selling reference book of the day, Washington Irving
describes in his 1809 History of New York "balls of sweetened dough,
fried in hog's fat, and called doughnuts."

Some balls of sweetened dough, fried in hog's fat can be yours in the
staff kitchen.


oh sigh. i LOVE donuts. a lot.
